Wisdom tooth post-op ????

Hey, does anybody happen to know if it's really bad if a blood clot comes out of the site of a removed wisdom tooth 6 days after the operation? Just happened to me as I was rinsing my mouth out.

Is my oral surgeon gonna be pissed at me tomorrow? :yikes:

Thanks.

Shadozfire 05-17-2007 05:14 PM

It is only natural to lose a clot. Just be extra careful when eating and making sure you get all the food bits out when you rinse.

PantyFanatic 05-17-2007 05:15 PM

If it's not bleeding now I wouldn't be too concerned. I'd read the 'clot' as a scab that formed in a constantly moist location, and if so, is SHOULD be gone. How does it feel? I'd just watch for anything that looks different and if it isn't bothering you, save the $.25 call and the $25.00 consultation.

PantyFanatic 05-17-2007 05:16 PM

See! ^^^ You even got it from somebody that knows something. ;)

IowaMan 05-17-2007 05:23 PM

Well, this is really the first time I've had any pain at all since it was done last Friday other than my jaw being a bit stiff. (Oh man, I'm gonna wish I hadn't just typed that.)

It's not bleeding though. Hmmmm, I do believe I need to have some Pixie ladies come check it out for me to make sure.

PF, if you'd like we can set up a free panty inspection clinic here as you come into my house. You are more than welcome to set up shop here. I'm sure the ladies would feel much better about things were they to receive a proper inspection once they arrive here. :D

Oh, and thanks for the info guys. Much appreciated.

osuche 05-17-2007 05:42 PM

I never had clots.

Do you think oyur dissolving stitches finally gave way and this was released?

Since you have the appointment tomorrow, I suspect you shouldn't panic too much

Oldfart 05-17-2007 08:29 PM

Hmmmm 6 days hmmmmmmmmm.

Lilith 05-17-2007 09:21 PM

If you had something awful like dry sockets you'd know it already.

Loulabelle 05-18-2007 02:41 AM

I'm sure it's fine, and tend towards what PF said....just a 'scab' in the mouth that means it's healing well.

I lost a small clot after childbirth (not from my mouth obviously) and I panicked like mad until I showed it to my midwife (she asked me to 'save' it for her - eewwww) and she just went 'Oh no, don't worry about that....if it was the size of a 50p piece or bigger, then I'd be concerned'

IowaMan 05-18-2007 06:00 AM

Thanks everybody. I sure do appreciate all the help.

You'd think that with all of the different crap I've been through in my life with doctors and such that I would have some sort of clue about this but nope. Never even had a cavity before so I'd never even been given a shot in my mouth before last Friday. Now I guess I can say that I've really lived huh? :p

Thanks again for all of your help, it really is appreciated.

gekkogecko 05-19-2007 08:27 AM

It certainly didn't pose any problems for me when I swallowed mine while eating a soft-boiled egg. And no, the site didn't noticably bleed afterwords, either. If it does, then yes, you should be concerned, but otherwise I wouldn't worry about it.

IowaMan 05-20-2007 03:08 PM

Had my follow-up appointment with the oral surgeon on Friday and everything was looking fine I guess. Was actually only there in the chair for maybe 4 min.

Oh........ and there was no charge. :faint:

Well, there really shouldn't have been, considering that it was really part of the previous proceedure.

Glad things went well otherwise in addition, you deserve to have something go right in your life.

Thanks gg, I appreciate that. Things are going ok, could always be better I suppose but I'm hangin' in there.

It was three weeks ago Friday that I had the teeth removed and a couple of times in the last week I've had something I found really strange happen. Very small pieces of bone have come out of the socket on my lower right side. Called the oral surgeon and his nurse told me it's not that uncommon and not to worry.

It doesn't hurt or anything but just sort of freaked me out. Anybody else have this happen?

osuche 06-03-2007 02:12 PM

:yikes: nope. That would have freaked me out too

IowaMan 06-03-2007 02:37 PM

It's just the craziest thing, these little chips of bone (I think there have been 4 of them now) that somehow find their way out. The surgeon said it's "nature's way" of reshaping the ridge. Whatever the hell that means.

Cheyanne 06-03-2007 03:31 PM

Yep, had that happen to me too, but over a year later. I kept feeling a weird bump that I worried with my tongue which finally got to be sharp. I kept bothering it until a small bone fragment worked its way out.

IowaMan 06-03-2007 06:05 PM

Yep, that's pretty much exactly what's happening with me Chey. Sharp little buggers!

Shadozfire 06-05-2007 08:51 PM

Stop fretting and enjoy the extra room!! :weg:

IowaMan 06-12-2007 04:07 PM

Not really all that enjoyable the last couple of days. There seems to be a really sharp edge of bone that is at the very edge of poking through the gum and it's bugging the hell out of me.

sodaklostsoul 06-12-2007 10:10 PM

Been ther done that^^^^^^it goes away after awhile.

IowaMan 06-12-2007 10:19 PM

I sure hope so cuz it's really bugging me. :(

IowaMan 09-09-2007 05:39 PM

It's happening again. Just starting to hurt like a mother again too. :(

Salacious 09-09-2007 06:10 PM

Your mouth is morphing? Awww, the better to eat m... :D Umm it will be fine! Really.

sodaklostsoul 09-09-2007 11:29 PM

Ya, it will work out more with time. Took years for mine to stop and it seldom happens now.

babybunny 09-10-2007 02:44 PM

It took like a year for my bone to be good and covered by the gum. It really did hurt til then as well. Wisdom teeth and all that go with are the devil. =\ Hope you feel better soon.

IowaMan 09-10-2007 02:56 PM

Thanks babybunny. :)

And Sal........... well, you're just trying to get me to come up and see ya. ;)

When you say, "years" Soda, what are we talking there? :yikes:

Steph 09-10-2007 03:25 PM

What they're saying is, "it hurts sometimes".

I just got three fillings in one tooth. It hurts sometimes.

IowaMan 09-10-2007 03:31 PM

Yep, it sure does. Oh well, I've dealt with much worse, I just wish it would hurry up and heal up.

Three fillings in one tooth? :yikes:

Yeah, I'm thinking that one would hurt a tad bit. Hope it gets better ASAP for you Steph.

I'm not asking for sympathy. I'm just asking you not to express surprise that dental surgery hurts sometimes.

Aqua 09-10-2007 04:42 PM

I'd be concerned too. It's not like the surgery was yesterday or a even week ago. When I had my wisdom teeth done I don't recall much discomfort after the first month.

Hope it gets to feeling better!

IowaMan 09-10-2007 05:01 PM

Thanks Aqua, I appreciate that.

Rhiannon 09-10-2007 06:41 PM

Poor iowaman.. at least you have a kitty to help you.
You're a sweetie

Salacious 09-10-2007 06:58 PM

As is often heard in this house ... "it will feel better when it stops hurting." :x:

IowaMan 09-10-2007 07:49 PM

Yep, my little furball keeps my mind off of lots of stuff. Thanks Rhiannon. :x:

That's some pretty solid advice there Sal. The peck on the cheek is a really nice start to the healing process. :x:
