I think Ghandi and Christ are the ones who come to mind when I think of honoring those who stand up to violence with non-violence. Christ of course has several days in our culture to honor him and well Ghandi was not very influential on our culture. Besides the important thing is that well like true heroes Christ, Ghandi and MLK probably never wanted anything named after them or celebrations in their name. Their work was its own reward. |
Our history and the long, difficult fight to change it together with M.L King, Jr's dedication, leadership, methods, and effects provide strong justification for a day honoring him and his movement.
